The electronic touch controls are intuitive and easy to us and the food is kept fresh for a long time. However, the stainless steel surface is hard to clean, the in-door ice and water dispenser sacrifices a lot of space sometimes it freezes the food. This model is energy efficient with an estimated yearly operated cost of $58.
Jenn-Air appliances are known for their enduring style and high performance since the first self-ventilated cooktop was manufactured in 1961. The brand’s reputation as a technology pioneer and leader continued with the addition of new, innovative features. Today, Jenn-Air is part of the Whirlpool family of brands and has a diverse line of home appliances including dishwashers, cooktops, refrigerators, wall ovens, ranges and microwave ovens. The Jenn-Air Euro-Style French-Door Refrigerator model JFI2589AES is an elegant and functional alternative for food storage. Because of the French doors, it requires little space to open fully, making it perfect for small kitchens or kitchens with center islands. This model can be acquired for $2,499. Let’s see if it is worth the investment.
The Jenn-Air Euro-Style has all the features you would expect from such an appliance. We like the versatile French doors that are part of the Euro-Style Stainless design with stainless handles. The external ice-and-water dispenser enhances the appearance of the French doors, creating an aesthetically pleasing look. Its PuriClean II filtration system offers an unlimited supply of crystal clear water. A SmoothClose drawer track system ensured that the drawer glides open even if the freezer is fully loaded. Other features include QuadSensor electronic climate control, temperature-controlled ChillKeeper door compartment, BrightSeries lighting package, QuietSeries II sound-silencing package, automatic moisture control and automatic pre-emptive defrost.
Design and Ease of Use
Jenn-Air JFI2589AES offers refined, European-inspired sophistication. Because of the stainless steel exterior, this unit blends with any kitchen style. The curved fronts are modern and graceful. We also like the designed electronic touch controls. Via the LCD display, you can control the internal temperatures without having to open the doors. The intuitive menu guides you from one step to the next, so you will have no problem activating the numerous functions. The Euro-Style stainless design also includes stainless steel handles, stainless steel doors and external stainless steel clad ice-and-water dispenser.
There are three pullout shelves and an extra one that can be lowered or raised you don’t have to remove or empty it to make room for taller items below or on it. You can also install a wine rack below any shelf you like. The right door has a special Chillkeeper compartment suitable for holding two one-gallon containers and for giving kids easy access to milk. A crisper drawer will ensure that your lettuce will stay fresh and crispy. The pantry drawer is set just above freezing if you select the coldest setting and has an adjustable divider you can use for separating cheese and cold cuts from raw milk. Removing the divider will make more room for a large platter. Although it’s hard to organize items in the freezer, we managed to fit a 24-pound turkey in one of the bins. The refrigerator’s capacity is 25 cubic feet and its dimensions are 69.86 in. height, 35.63 in. width, 33.75 in depth. Some users complained that the stainless steel surface is hard to clean and that the controls are not illuminated so you have to turn the light on at night to select water or ice. Other owners reported that the construction is cheap and the in-door ice and water dispenser sacrifices a lot of door and refrigerator space.
Performance and Energy Efficiency
We tested it for the ability to keep food fresh and to maintain cold temperatures and it performed above average, although not as good as top-rated refrigerators. This appliance is Energy Star rated and has an annual energy consumption of 581 kWh and an estimated yearly operating cost of $58 based on a 2007 national average electricity cost of 10.65 cents per kWh. Some owners complained that it is a bit noisy and that the temperature control sometimes malfunctions and freezes the food.
